Welcome

Solar Recovery Corporation is committed to diverting all end-of-life solar PV panels from landfill streams and to the recovery of all the materials from decommissioned panels for use in new applications to create new local jobs in new industries and delivering positive outcomes for our environment, sustainability practice and human health.

About us

Solar Recovery Corporation (SRC) is the Australian owned partnership to the European Company LME, who manufacture clean technology specifically built to process end-of-life Solar PV Panels. We have a 12-year successful history in the European market with a 99+% material recovery rate.

NO MORE EXCUSES FOR POOR MANAGEMENT OF END-OF-LIFE (EOL) SOLAR PANELS.

Solar Recovery Corporation is now accepting EOL panels

Facilities in Biloela and Townsville are now accepting panels, SRC will establish materials recovery technology in coming months at both locations. Additionally, the SRC road map has identified solar panel collection centres to be established in South East Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria in coming weeks, with the same model approach being used as has been implemented and refined in Townsville and Biloela.

Drop off portal

There is a requirement for a chain of custody records for reporting the flow of end-of-life Solar PV Panels from the business site, to a lawful place for processing and the destination for recovered materials.

SRC has launched a drop off portal to comply with all legal and regulatory requirements, present and future.

Our Technology

SRC Recovery Centres use patented world leading technology to fully recover materials from all type of solar PV panels. This innovation lays the foundation for closing the circular economy loop.

A recycling scheme for solar panels and batteries is needed. Australia already has schemes in place for televisions and computers.

Despite costs to recycle, these recycling schemes create jobs and help the environment.

  • Australia has the highest uptake of solar globally. There are approximately 40,000,000 Solar PV Panels in service now on residential rooftops. By 2030 the number of Solar PV Panels on residential rooftops will increase to approximately 50,000,000.

  • Large corporate companies have embraced renewable energy to service their energy demands there are approximately 8,000,000 Solar PV Panels in service now. By 2030 this will increase to approximately 15,000,000.

  • Solar energy is used to generate renewable energy for a wide variety of industrial industry applications. There are approximately 5,000,000 Solar PV Panels in operation now. By 2030 this will increase to  approximately 9,000,000.

  • Currently there are approximately 31,000,000 Solar PV Panels in service now on solar farms. By 2030

The solar farm sector will increase to approximately 193,000,000.

End-of-life solar PV panels leave behind toxic waste

Solar PV Panels are an increasingly important source of renewable power in Australia that will play an essential role in fighting climate change. However, at end-of-life the solar PV panels become a source of toxic waste.

Currently, Australia does not have a circular economy solution for end-of- life solar PV panels.

Standard e-waste recycling methods are not suitable for decommissioned solar PV panels. Recovering the materials from end-of-life solar PV panels requires a specific and specialised recycling solution.

Laws & Regulations

SRC will drive and maintain a benchmark standard for the management of end-of-life (EOL) Solar PV Panels across Australia, within a circular economy framework.

Victoria has banned solar panels from landfill with other states to follow. SRC has a single focus of diverting all Solar PV Panels from landfill for processing and maximum material recovery.

On 1 July 2021 new laws commenced under the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) Act 2017. There is a strong focus on General Environmental Duty (GED), which requires businesses to be responsible for protecting the environment and human health.

There is a requirement for a chain of custody records  for reporting the flow of end-of-life Solar PV Panels from the business site, to a lawful place for processing and the destination for recovered materials.

SRC has developed an end-of-life solar PV panel complete management policy.

The SRC management policy aligns with:

a) All regulatory requirements

b) All legal requirements

c) The EU WEEE Directive 2012 / 2019

d) 2018 National waste Policy; Less Waste More Resource

e) Victorian Circular Economy Policy 2020

f) Waste Management Policy e-waste 2019

g) EPA Guidelines for storing, transport and processing of e-waste 2021
